Webinar Event: Navigating the Politics of Equity-Based Budgeting

June 4, 2021

In this webinar, Dr. Patrese Mason will facilitate our Navigating the Politics of Equity-Based Budgeting simulation. In this simulation, you play the role of superintendent in a traditionally well-regarded district that is experiencing significant population shifts with a host of changing needs. Your challenge is to work with a variety of stakeholders to develop and pass a budget that will provide funding in an equitable manner. This will call for a different process than that which has been used in the past – it is a significant change that must be managed.

Key characters include board members with individual agendas, cabinet team with different priorities, community leaders focused on disparate issues
Trade-offs to consider:

  • Facilitating discussion and exchange of ideas in balance with directing toward what you believe to be the optimal path
  • Taking action on your own vs. managing dialogue among stakeholders

SchoolSims participants are afforded opportunities to work through authentic school-based issues and practice decision-making to improve learning and retention. By expanding their experience portfolio, aspiring and sitting leaders build resilience and extend capacity to prepare them for real-life leadership challenges. Each of the Ed Leadership programs represented on the panel utilizes our simulation library in a unique way to address the needs and the design features of their program. Join this session to learn how those benefits can be integrated into your own professional development programs.

SchoolSims provides a powerful and affordable way to deliver highly effective leadership training. Current and aspiring school leaders are offered a chance to experience real-life scenarios that depict true events but in a simulated setting. Since there aren’t always right or wrong answers when it comes to human behavior, experimentation is encouraged within the simulation as there is no way to fail. Participants practice critical thinking and are encouraged to discuss the reasons behind their choices which allows for peer-to-peer learning. When confronted with challenging situations, school leaders sift through their past experiences searching for relevant instances from which to draw knowledge. If learning from your mistakes is the best way to experience growth, how do we provide these learning experiences to current and aspiring leaders?

At SchoolSims, we have created the solution by providing manufactured experiences through online, software simulations that assist in growing current and aspiring school leaders. Simulations can be facilitated in-person or through any online meeting service. When gathering in groups is discouraged or not possible, online simulation training can be safely and effectively deployed.
