SAANYS Spotlight Session | Leading School Culture Change Simulation: Practice and Problem-Solving

April 27, 2023

In this SAANYS Spotlight Session, Ken Spero, SchoolSims President & Founder, facilitates our Leading School Culture Change simulation.

The Simulation:
In this simulation, you will serve as a principal of an elementary school where academic performance is falling. The faculty and staff are satisfied with the status quo and resist change. As you encounter a variety of perspectives among individuals and teams, how can you build a coalition that recognizes the need for a culture that supports improved performance?

Takeaways:
During the simulation, you will…

• Practice taking direct action while working with stakeholders.

• Learn how to speak to complex data while encountering disparate interpretations.

• Work on eliciting input while shaping a dialogue.

Facilitator Ken Spero:
Ken is an avid believer in the adage that experience is the best teacher and, for over 30 years, has been utilizing computer-based simulations to allow professionals to safely learn from decision-making mistakes around some of the most challenging problems of practice. For the past six years, Ken has been focused on the challenge of the “Silent Crisis of Leadership in K-12” working to enhance leadership capacity and improve critical thinking amongst school administrators.

SchoolSims provides a powerful and affordable way to deliver highly effective training for school leaders and teachers. Current and aspiring leaders and teachers are offered a chance to experience real-life scenarios that depict true events but in a simulated setting. Since there aren’t always right or wrong answers when it comes to human behavior, experimentation is encouraged within the simulation as there is no way to fail. Participants practice critical thinking and are encouraged to discuss the reasons behind their choices which allows for peer-to-peer learning.
