End of School Year: Navigating the Final Stretch

May 17, 2023

During this webinar, LeAnne Salazar Montoya, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Educational Policy and Leadership at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will facilitate our End of School Year simulation, where you and your peers from across the country will weigh difficult decisions while managing conflicting interests.

About our End of School Year simulation:

You are a first-year principal of an elementary school wrapping up the school year; you are responsible for building and staffing a plan to improve academic achievement in the coming year. In this simulation, you will encounter stakeholders in the plan whose needs vary and must be considered relatively. As a tool for practicing school leadership and decision-making, you will first reflect on your core values. Through the simulation, you will receive feedback on how your choices influence degrees of stress and buy-in at your school. How will you handle this situation?

During the webinar, you will learn how to:

  • Handle stakeholders’ various, sometimes conflicting interests fairly and transparently in your planning while also adhering to deadlines.
  • Weigh decisions as they may affect degrees of stress and buy-in at your school inversely.

SchoolSims provides a powerful and affordable way to deliver highly effective training for school leaders and teachers. Current and aspiring leaders and teachers are offered a chance to experience real-life scenarios that depict true events but in a simulated setting. Since there aren’t always right or wrong answers when it comes to human behavior, experimentation is encouraged within the simulation as there is no way to fail. Participants practice critical thinking and are encouraged to discuss the reasons behind their choices which allows for peer-to-peer learning.
