The SpreadSims Technology

SchoolSims business consists of three parts – the content of the sims (from the Sim Authors/Content), the language used to implement the sims (implemented in a client), and the platform that allows for the purchase and use of Sims.

• SpreadSims is a protected language and a methodology for creating a variety of Sims that use spreadsheets (Excel at present and Open Office in the near future) and extends their functionality.
• It can be used for variety of different types of Sims including multi-person, multi-period networked Sims, stand-alone against the computer, bidding Sims, mini-Sims that complement chapters in a text book and the NCEA and Cambridge syllabi’s.
• Sims are supported with training material, documentation, tests and videos.
• It is easy to use and any reasonable spreadsheet user can create Sims.
• One part of SpreadSims is a plug-in to Excel. It is intended to extend this plug-in to Open Office also.
• The other part is a Web-based platform that allows for the setup and running of classes, and the publication of Sims.
• This platform also allows for the sharing, marketing and selling of simulations among a community of authors and teachers.
